Irish Heritage Month, celebrated each March, is a time to honour the rich history, culture, and contributions of the Irish people, particularly in countries with large Irish diaspora communities such as the United States, Canada, and Australia. Coinciding with St. Patrick’s Day on March 17, this month provides an opportunity to reflect on the lasting impact of Irish immigrants and their descendants in various fields, including politics, literature, music, and labor movements.

Many cities host parades, cultural festivals, and educational events showcasing Irish dance, music, and folklore. Traditional Irish symbols such as the shamrock, the harp, and the Celtic knot are prominently displayed. Irish Heritage Month also serves as a time to acknowledge the struggles and resilience of Irish immigrants, particularly during the Great Famine in the 19th century, which led to mass emigration.

By celebrating Irish Heritage Month, people of all backgrounds can appreciate Ireland’s deep cultural influence and the enduring spirit of the Irish people.

Here in Toronto where the Irish Design House store is located, we curate a window display showcasing the finest Irish handcrafts - specifically the heritage items such as Aran knitwear, traditional blankets, Donegal tweed caps. This year we have incorporated a backdrop of interwoven yarns in green, white and gold representing the national flag and the heritage of our textile industry. The many over-lapping yarns also represent the vast array of individual brands that we stock and the craftspeople that create them.

The Toronto St. Patrick's Day Parade is held annually on the Sunday prior to the day itself - a fun filled day for all the family.  https://stpatrickstoronto.com/
